At Portofino Bakery we wake up each morning with an unrelenting passion for baking and creating everyday baked goods that are sustainable and accessible for the communities we serve. We want our community to enjoy breaking bread together for generations to come, which is why ensuring a positive impact on the world around us is embedded into our DNA.
Since our inception, we have built our business in partnership with local suppliers. 100% of our flour for our breads comes from flour mills locally in British Columbia. In fact, from ingredients to equipment and supplies to software, the majority of our partners are right here in British Columbia.
At Portofino, we are committed to reducing waste. We have made many strides, including moving from bagged flour to a flour silo system. In the first 6 months of silo operations, we have saved over 60,000 flour bags from the landfill, saved an estimated 1,000 kgs in wasted flour and diverted 10 bagged flour trailer loads from Chilliwack to Victoria, saving an estimated 7 metric tons of CO2 emissions!
SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITIES
We depend on the community we operate in. Our goal is to make our communities better places to live, raise families and break bread. The Backpack Buddies food program is one organization filling this need. A charity founded by a mother and daughter, this generous group looks to fill the weekend hunger gap, sending youth in need around our province home with a bag of food for the weekend. Our team came together to donate over 900 items of greatest need to help support these kids in our community during the holiday season.
