A Thank You Letter

Thank you to our valued customers and tireless front-line workers. It is in challenging times like these that we often see the best come out in our communities – this crisis is no different. While things are still far from normal, because of your commitment each day we take a step towards progress and the end of this pandemic, together. Thank you for your dedication.

Thank you to those who are prioritizing giving back. At Portofino, we are fortunate to be able to team up with some great organizations that are feeding the most vulnerable in our communities during these times of need. We have the honour of donating our bakery products to Backpack Buddies and FATSO, two terrific BC-local organizations spearheading very meaningful causes during these times. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and efforts.

Thank you to our tremendous staff at Portofino. I am humbled each day by the dedication across our teams. While we have instituted many additional safety measures across our operations to protect our staff, I know the uncertainty of the pandemic on our staff’s work, personal, and family lives does not make things easier for them on a daily basis. Our dedicated staff has kept our operations running and are taking the same approach to producing our high-quality local products – we would not be able to do this without them. Thank you for your service.

As a producer of essential food products for our customers and front-line workers, we at Portofino are here to support you during these times. We are committed to continue sharing our passion and our pride with you each day so that you can continue feeding yourselves and your families artisan-quality products that you can trust. While many of our food service customers have been adversely affected by COVID-19, we remain fully operational and focused more than ever on serving our communities and ensuring the safety of our staff and our customers.

From all of us here at Portofino, we thank you for coming together during these challenging times.

In response to the escalating COVID-19 situation, at Portofino we are taking precautionary measures both structurally as a company and operationally each day to ensure that we are maintaining a safe working environment and are able to continue serving our customers.

As a food production company, we are an essential service to our fellow Canadians in need and we are honoured to be an important part of our customers’ everyday lives. We are taking thoughtful actions each day and ensuring that we will succeed during this challenging time together as a team and community.

To combat the spread of COVID-19, we have instituted several additional protective measures across our company and at our facilities, including:

  • Implementing the recommendations from all levels of Government
  • Increasing sanitization at our facilities and across our operations
  • Restricting access to our facilities to essential personnel only
  • Providing additional Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to all staff
  • Instituting new physical distancing rules across our facilities
  • Keeping personnel with any potential illness away from the facilities and providing them with adequate time to get better
  • Providing employees with flexible return to work plans
  • Whenever there is a grey area, always taking the cautious approach

As an essential food company, we are not alone in our fight against COVID-19. There have been a number of businesses across Canada that have been affected by COVID-19, including businesses that have had team members test positive for the virus. After a positive test, many of these businesses took the appropriate steps, worked hand-in-hand with the health authorities, and ensured their facilities were sanitized so that all team members were safe. At Portofino, if we do encounter this situation, we will take a similar approach and we will always take the more cautious approach to keep our staff and customers safe.
